Meet Alfred , a lovely gentle giant .

To those of you that gave generously towards Alfreds treatment I would like to say thank you.
It is with much sorrow that I have to tell you that Alfred had to cross over the Rainbow Bridge . He went to the vets for his operation and everything semed fine but the tumour was far worse than we had imagined , it had its own blood supply and these veins had extended into his chest area and beyond. When xrayed shadows were then found in his lungs . It was decided that it would be better for him to pass over with dignity and without pain .
RIP Alfred
Alfred was handed over to rescue with what was described as a slight swelling to his lower leg caused by a bite .We were horrified when we saw the extent of the swelling to his leg and sought veterinary attention immediately . After undergoing extensive tests the swelling on Alfreds leg has been diagnosed as a soft tissue tumour . This confirmed our worst fears ,but after much discussion and soul searching we have decided that Alfred should at least be given the chance of a happy retirement and with the full agreement of the vet we have made the decision to have his leg amputated. This we realise will be a long road to go down but we are assured that the prognosis for him after the operation will be very good.
To give Alfred the chance he deserves we need to ask for help to pay for his treatment . At this point in time we do not even know how much it will ulimately cost ,but we do know that we as a rescue will not let Alfred down and will do everything that we can to get him better.

Despite him being in pain and discomfort he is being a very good boy.
