The first step is to complete a pre homecheck form which can be submitted to us online, this helps us to understand your routine and surroundings so as to find you the most suitable dog to meet those requirements. On receipt of your completed form we will arrange a home visit from one of our volunteers to collate any further information that we require, Adopters will not be considered for a dog until this visit has been completed
Finding a 'FOREVER HOME' is important, but we must ensure the safety and wellbeing of the dog and its new family. Below is a summary of the conditions under which dogs in our care are adopted and rehomed.
When the Dog is placed in your care it is on the understanding that Mastiffs in Need or distress remains his/her legal owner. It is our hope that all placements will be for life subject to the following conditions being adhered to :-
1. You do not part with the dog other than with written permission from Mastiffs in Need or Distress, Under no circumstances is the dog to be re-homed by the adopter. Or put to sleep without our consent unless in a veterinary surgeons view such action is required on medical grounds, if this is the case then a certificate must be obtained.
2. We strongly urge that new adopters take out insurance cover on their new family member which should include third party liability
3. At no time should the dog be allowed out on his/her own without a lead, and only when you are sure that the dog will come back to you immediately when called should you let him/her off lead and then only in an open space where you can be aware of anyone approaching always be on alert for other dogs who may not be under the control of their owner
4. An authorized member of Mastiffs in Need or Distress must be allowed to visit the dog at a convenient time to ensure that he/she is happy and settled, that person may if in their opinion the conditions on this form are not being adhered to, repossess the dog without interference.
5. If the dog is lost or stolen Mastiffs in Need or Distress must be informed immediately along with your local police , dog warden and stray kennels.
6. The dog is to only be kept as a personal pet and therefore must live indoors, unless prior agreement is given in writing by Mastiffs in Need or Distress
7. It is your responsibility to provide qualified veterinary care in cases of illness and injury and ensure that annual vaccination boosters are given
8. Wherever possible dogs are neutered before re homing and under no circumstances is breeding from a rescue dog allowed and any evidence of such WILL result in the immediate removal of the dog from your care it is our job as a rescue to help the many dogs who are currently in need NOT to produce more.
9. The dog should wear a collar at all times attached to which should be a disc bearing your Name, Address and telephone number but not the dogs name
10. As the dogs keeper responsibility for any nuisance, damage or injury caused by the dog whilst in your care lies with you.
11. Any donation made to rescue is a contribution to current and future veterinary costs incurred by the rescue and is not taken as payment for any particular dog.
12. Please note that whilst every precaution is taken when rehoming puppies no responsibility can be taken as to the true parentage of the dog. All dogs are to the best of our knowledge of the breeding stated on the form
